چکیده

Abstrac t. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between subjective ratings of presence and physiological responses to a virtual environment. To measure subjective presence, Immersion, Presence, and Realism questionnaires were used. As measures of physiological response, heart rate and skin resistance readings were acquired. Seventytwo participants (36.4±15.5 years of age) were presented with a virtual environment depicting an airplane flight. The results show a correlation between Presence Questionnaire scores and both heart rate and skin resistance: -0.232 (95% confidence), -0.306 (99% confidence) respectively. In the study, heart rate and skin resistance appeared to indicate the participant’s degree of immersion.

An Advanced State Estimation Method Using Virtual Meters

-  Power system state estimation is a central component in energy management systems of power system. The goal of state estimation is to determine the system status and power flow of transmission lines. This paper presents an advanced state estimation algorithm based on weighted least square (WLS) criteria by introducing virtual meters. For each bus of network, except slack bus, a virtual meter...

Presence: concept, determinants, and measurement

The concept of presence, i.e. the sensation of ‘being there’ in a mediated environment, has received substantial attention from the virtual reality community, and is becoming increasingly relevant both to broadcasters and display developers. Although research into presence is still at an early stage of development, there is a consensus that presence has multiple determinants. To identify and te...

Investigation of the compatibility of wet bulb globe temperature (WBGT) and predicted heat strain (PHS) in assessing the environmental conditions and heat load imposed on individuals: a case study in bakery workers

Introduction: This study was designed with the main purpose of examining the compatibility of the two indicators of wet bulb globe temperature (WBGT) and predicted thermal strain (PHS) in assessing the environmental conditions and the heat load imposed on the subjects. Method: In this cross-sectional study, 163 bakers were included in the study. Thermal stress was determined using the WBGT and...
